Abnormal direction of internal auditory canal and vestibulocochlear nerve.
Several internal auditory canal (IAC) anomalies have been reported. To our knowledge, only one case with an abnormal direction of the IAC has been reported in an infant with Pierre Robin syndrome. In this paper, we present the first report of two non-syndromic cases with abnormal IAC direction.
متن کاملMR of the normal and abnormal internal auditory canal.
MR performed with thin, contiguous sections has replaced CT for the study of the cerebellopontine angle and for diagnosis of acoustic neuromas. In our experience large acoustic neuromas are well seen in all pulse sequences. Tumors with small extracanalicular components are seen in the T1- and spin-density-weighted sequences whereas purely intracanalicular lesions are often visualized only in th...
متن کاملTopographical relationship of the facial and vestibulocochlear nerves in the subarachnoid space and internal auditory canal.
PURPOSE Our purpose was to investigate the topographical relationship of the facial and vestibulocochlear nerves from the brain stem through the internal auditory canal. METHODS We dissected 15 formalin-fixed cadaveric heads and performed MR examinations in 35 healthy subjects in order to examine the topographical relationship of the facial and vestibulocochlear nerves. The cadaveric dissecti...
متن کاملAnatomy of the facial and vestibulocochlear nerves in the internal auditory canal.
PURPOSE To define the anatomy of the facial and vestibulocochlear nerves in the internal auditory canal on parasagittal CT scans of cadaveric specimens and to compare this anatomy with findings on in vivo T2-weighted two-dimensional fast spin-echo and three-dimensional turbo spin-echo MR images. METHODS Thirty-eight formalin-fixed cadaveric temporal bones were examined with 1-mm-thick contigu...
متن کاملPatulous internal auditory canal.
OBJECTIVE To investigate a rare anomaly of the internal auditory canal known as a patulous canal and its relationship to hearing impairment. METHODS High-resolution computed tomographic scans of the temporal bones of patients who presented between August 2001 and August 2002 were reviewed. The patients' medical charts were evaluated for age, sex, and hearing impairment, and the computed tomog...
